At a major crude oil terminal in Southeast Asia, Hibiscus Petroleum set out to strengthen its CUI inspection strategy for a critical vessel. By deploying predictive, data-driven monitoring, the company enhanced compliance with national safety requirements while gaining accurate insight to pinpoint and manage CUI risk.
With CR:LR, operators identified specific points of concern before visual inspection. Regulators later uncovered cladding and insulation defects precisely where the dashboard had highlighted. The data gave the operator the data-driven confidence to reduce inspection costs and justified target maintenance.
Challenge
The primary objective for the client was meeting mandatory regulatory inspections for the vessel, which required assessing its condition beneath the insulation. Conventional inspections required costly, labour-intensive insulation removal, creating significant financial risk without guaranteeing CUI detection.
Solution
Inspection confirmed defects exactly where the system has evaluated high risk
Implementation
- The solution featured both corrosion and moisture sensors, deployed on
the vessel. - The installation was carried out using scaffolding, with the sensors arranged in a helical formation to provide comprehensive coverage of high-risk areas. The system transmitted continuous data from the sensors via a BLE connection.
- This continuous data allowed the operator’s integrity team to monitor the asset’s condition remotely, providing immediate insight into moisture ingress and the onset of corrosion, thereby building a detailed performance history ahead of the next scheduled regulatory inspection.
Outcome
- Prior to a planned regulatory inspection, the monitoring system identified specific locations on the vessel where moisture ingress and corrosion were occurring.
- During the official inspection, regulators found physical defects in the vessel’s cladding and insulation. The customer’s Inspection confirmed defects where the system had highlighted elevated risk.
- By accurately detecting and locating the CUI threats, the system delivered the critical insight to accurately detect and locate CUI threats, allowing the operator to focus future inspections, reduce unnecessary costs, and make informed, data-led decisions to manage asset integrity and regulatory compliance.
